Our Story

Henok Tesfaye’s dream to be a parking operator all started on one of the most historic and prestigious streets in the country. U Street in Washington D.C. is known for its vibrant culture and world famous restaurants. This same street however due to its popularity has the reality of a lack of parking. Henok, recognized this as an opportunity to service the community and embark on his life long dream

The first asset acquired by USP Parking was incorporated in 1998. The facility was a 30 space self-parking lot in which patrons paid $2.00 per vehicle. Almost a two decade later and an increase demand for parking, USP Parking has matured into the leading minority owned parking management firm in the country. Our portfolio includes ownership and operation of Airports, Municipalities, Stadiums, Class A buildings, Healthcare, Hotels, Entertainment venues and world class eateries.

Training and Development

With our team of service fanatics being the most essential element of our operation, our CEO requirement is to keep all employees engaged. Our orientation is very intense; it is here that we recognize who has what it takes to be a part of our team. Our training includes but is not limited to in Classroom training and client simulated role plays. From a development perspective our Executive team, due to their start in the industry from an entry level position to company executive feel very strong about retention and promoting our associates from within.

Business systems and procedures

One of our many responsibilities is to maximize revenue to guarantee profitability of the parking facility. Through proper utilization of solid business systems and procedures revenue and cost control is achieved. At USP we utilize state of the art technology, accounting system, and equipment. Over the years we have acquired and worked with Parking Revenue equipment such as Amano, Ski Data, TiBA, ParkingSoft, WPS, ACS, Data Park, Ziag, CTR, ACS, Federal APD, and more.

Mr. Henok Tesfaye has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of U Street Parking, Inc. (USP), a company he founded in 1998. Under Mr. Tesfaye’s leadership, USP has become a premier parking company in the highly competitive parking market in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area.

Mr. Tesfaye’s efforts proved successful when U Street Parking, Inc. was awarded multi-million-dollar contracts to manage parking facilities at five of the busiest airports on the East Coast, adding Orlando International Airport earlier this year.

Mr. Tesfaye is also involved in the real-estate sector, at United Investments with multi-million dollar properties currently in development within the DC Metropolitan Area. Mr. Tesfaye has been featured in multiple publications. The Washington Post described him as “a District of Columbia entrepreneurial success story, a savvy and focused business with good standing within the community.”

Mr. Tesfaye is a Board Member at Capital Bank and the Washington Architectural Foundation, as well as a member of numerous civic and professional associations including the D.C. Chamber of Commerce, the Enterprise Development Group, and the National Parking Association. Mr. Tesfaye also plays an important role in giving back to the community. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Mary Joy Foundation USA, a non-profit organization that seeks to help children and seniors in his homeland, Ethiopia.

Yared Tesfaye co-founded USP in 1998 and serves as the company’s Vice President and CFO. Yared oversees USP’s financial and administrative support functions. In addition, he is responsible for the company’s treasury function, including cash management, banking relations, insurance, and taxation. Yared is a specialist in contract negotiation and has managed to consolidate and pass on savings from vendors to USP and its clients. His keen attention to detail makes him perfect in reviewing monthly financial statements, preparing P&L, and overseeing the auditing department.

John Madden serves as the Chief Operating Officer for USP. John has over 35 years of experience in parking, transportation, and mobility access across the United States. John has worked in several different verticals including commercial and mixed-use properties, hospital and university campuses, stadiums and arenas, entertainment and convention centers, airports, hotels, mass transit, curbside management and municipal operations. In his role as, COO John is focused on USP’s operational excellence and fiscal management. John is responsible for executing strategic growth initiatives that include digital technology and mobility, operational expansion, business development and USP’s growth through focusing on creating smart parking assets maximizing revenue through innovation and efficiency while enhancing the customer’s experience.

Ben Tesfaye serves as the Director of Operations since 2002. In this capacity, he has helped the company grow to over a thousand employees and increasing profitability. Ben is responsible for all USP’s day-to-day operations, overseeing all organizational functions with various RFP prospects and contract preparation and compliance. Prior to his role of the Director of Operations, he has served in many different positions within USP which has given him exposure to every aspect of the business.

Mario DiFranco joined USP in 2015 bringing with him a wealth of knowledge gained in his 18 years in the accounting field. He has varied and extensive experience gained in high-level accounting positions including CFO and Controller in companies ranging from start-ups to medium-sized companies with 10’s of millions in revenue. In his duties with USP he performs a variety of financial analyses to measure the current and forecasted financial health of the company and present potential scenarios to the Executive Team.
